Thank You, Arkansas

January 11 – National Arkansas Day according to the National Day website calendar. So on this day, 2MyHero wants to thank those from Arkansas who support our troops by sending them encouragement through 2MyHero military greeting cards purchased on Amazon and Etsy. #NationalArkansasDay

2MyHero has shipped Army, Air Force, Marines, and Navy military greeting cards to families throughout the state of Arkansas. Today, I salute you!

On this Monday we celebrate all that’s great in Arkansas. Also on this Monday, 2MyHero celebrates all the US Air Force, Army, Marines, and Navy moms, dads, spouses, grandparents, and friends who have purchased our military greeting cards to celebrate their Airmen, Soldiers, Marines, and Sailors.

BCT Confidence - US Army Military Appreciation Encouragement Greeting Card - by 2MyHero
BCT Confidence is a popular card for enlisted US Army Soldiers and has been purchased by customers in Arkansas.

Arkansas was the 25th state to join the union. It does not boast a large military presence in terms of bases. It is home to Little Rock AFB which deploys and trains the world’s best C-130 Combat Airlifters. Maybe that’s why there are many Air Force family members ordering 2MyHero cards for their Airmen.

Not surprisingly, since there is only one military base in the state, there is also only one military museum in Arkansas. Arkansas Air and Military Museum makes its’ home in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It is a small museum with a variety of aircraft and land vehicles from the early 1920’s through the 1970’s. Most of the helicopters and aircraft are housed indoors, although they do have an A4C Skyhawk on loan from the the National Museum of Naval Aviation. If you want to know more about this museum you can check it out here: https://arkansasairandmilitary.com/

A fun fact about Arkansas – When Arkansas first became a state in 1836, how to pronounce the name of the 25th state was up for debate. Was it Arkan-saw or Ar-kansas? The issue was settled in 1881 when the State General Assembly passed Concurrent Resolution No.4. It stated the state’s name would be pronounced Arkan-saw and spelled Arkansas.

Reagan Quote on Digi - US Marine Corps Military Appreciation and Encouragement Greeting Card by 2MyHero
Reagan Quote on Digi – popular in many states including Arkansas.

There are some interesting names of cities in Arkansas. Russelville, Van Buren, Smackover, Bauxite, Mayflower, Judsonia, Searcy, North Little Rock, Springdale, Fort Smith, Rogers, Bella Vista, Jonesboro are all cities whose families with an Airman, Soldier, Sailor, or Marine have purchased 2MyHero cards.

My favorite city name from Arkansas is Smackover. It’s a small town with a population under 2,000 in North Union County. According to Wikipedia – “In 1686, the French settlers called this area “SUMAC COUVERT”, which translates to “covered in sumac bushes“. This was transliterated, that is, phonetically Anglicized by the English-speaking settlers of the 19th century and later to the name “SMACKOVER.””

Destined - US Navy military appreciation encouragement greeting card - by 2MyHero
Destined for Great Things is available for US Navy Sailors. Designs with this same phrase but different images are available for US Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.

Although I’ve not had the pleasure of visiting or even driving through Arkansas, I do hope to someday. For now, I just want to thank the families and communities in Arkansas that faithfully support our troops. I know that your Airmen, Soldiers, Marines, and Sailor are thankful for your encouragement as well. Handwritten messages sent in an appropriate military greeting card are always appreciated and treasured. Some will hold onto these special gifts for the entire time of their military service. Maybe even beyond their military service.

If you’re from Arkansas please leave a comment below. Let me know what part of the state you’re from and which branch of the military your hero is either actively on duty with or a Veteran of.

You can find 2MyHero on PinterestInstagram, and Facebook. I’d love to meet you in cyberland and learn more about what you need to help you stay connected with your military people.
