While women in the military are not the majority, we believe they are a minority that not only deserves, but needs encouragement. In preparing to write this highlight for Still a lady we did a bit of internet research about women in the military. We were curious about the numbers.
According to a Demographics Report put out by Military One Source, women in combined Active Duty and Selected Reserve categories comprise 17.2% of those populations. Coast Guard is not included in those figures, so if you were to add those, the number would be even higher! (BTW, Still a lady is available in the Coast Guard Collection also).
To break that down a little further, Active Duty demographics show 15.9% are women, Reserve and Guard show 19.3% are women. Another source, Time Labs, cited the Air Force and Navy as having the highest percentage of women serving: 17.8% for the Navy, and 18.7% for the Air Force.
We think those are numbers are worth giving attention to. That’s why we have cards specifically created with women in uniform in mind. Still a lady as a design is so high on our list, it has a representation in all our Collections: US Air Force, US Marines, and US Coast Guard.
Still a lady is a design that has delighted so many of our customers, and it is the tone of their delight that is especially pleasing. It’s kind of like the response people give when you mention going to Paris. It’s that “Aaaaaahhhh Paris . . . .” Do you know that tone? The eyelids flutter a little bit. A soft, happy smile emerges. You can tell by looking at them that some kind of happy memory or thought is playing in their head.
Not long ago we met with a buyer who was so taken with this card it made us smile too. A smile that went deep down inside. That’s the kind of connection we hope every greeting card we create will inspire in both the giver and receiver of 2MyHero cards.
2MyHero prides itself on creatively reaching beyond the typical imagery found on greeting cards for military. We want to express a depth of feeling and connection that will help bridge the gap between those of us who are civilians to the men and women we love who are or were at one time in military service.
We’ve learned that military members are very loyal to their branch of service. That’s why ALL of our cards are licensed (with the exception of Gold Star sympathy cards). If you’re not sure what that means, here’s a link to our FAQ page that explains what in involved in carrying licensing with branches of the US Armed Forces.
If you know a young woman heading off to boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Base, you’ll want to purchase one of the six packs so you can encourage them at every stage – during bootcamp, at graduation, there’s one for their RDC and depending on how often you write them at boot camp, you may have one or two left over to send after graduation on first assignment. If you haven’t heard the term RDC yet, check out our blog that explains that acronym.
Still a lady is available individually, or in this mixed six pack:
