Today we salute the Hawkeye state on this 8th day of February, #NationalIowaDay
Iowa doesn’t make the press a lot. Which makes it a great place to live, and in terms of active-duty military personnel, a great place to be from.
Nestled in the heartland of this Bread Basket state are Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and US Navy families who have found 2MyHero cards and are enthusiastic supporters of their military sons and daughters.
The 29th state to join the United States is known sometimes as the Hawkeye State and sometimes as the Corn State. Iowa’s nickname, “The Hawkeye State”, according to the State Symbols website is a tribute to chief Black Hawk, leader of the native American Sauk tribe (relocated to Iowa after unsuccessful fighting of settlers). Iowa is also called “The Corn State” – 90 percent of the land in Iowa is devoted to agriculture.
In these times of social distancing, families all across the country are unable to attend the graduation ceremonies as they once did. But just like the families in Iowa, they can still express their pride and admiration for their new enlisted or commissioned officer Airman, Coastie, Marine, Sailor, or Soldier by sending them one or more of the fitting graduation and encouragement military greeting cards from 2MyHero.
For families with new recruits heading to basic training in the coming year, the mixed pack of 6 offers a fantastic saving and is a wonderful gift for the spouse, mom, dad, or grandparent.
2MyHero mixed packs of enlisted graduation, encouragement, Drill Instructor Thank You, and birthday cards are available for all 5 branches.
So many 2MyHero orders have come from Hawkeye moms and dads, grandparents, and military personnel with a fairly even spread between Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, and Navy. Sprinkle in a couple of Coast Guard orders and there you have it.
For 2MyHero, Iowa boasts fantastic support for all 5 branches – US Army, US Air Force, US Coast Guard, US Navy, and US Marine Corps. Individual cards and mixed packs, graduation, promotion, and birthday cards have all been ordered by military families residing in Iowa. It was fun to look through the orders and list all the cities where they came from. Some I’ve heard of, some I’ve not, there’s a couple I’ve been to. Look at this list of cities:
#AltoonaIowa #AnkenyIowa #BurlingtonIowa #CedarRapidsIowa #CharlesCityIowa #ClintonIowa #CouncilBluffsIowa #DesMoinesIowa #DowCityIowa #DubuqueIowa #ElginIowa #ElmaIowa #FentonIowa #ForestCityIowa #FortDodgeIowa #HubbardIowa #NewMarketIowa #NewtonIowa #PaulinaIowa #PerryIowa #PisgahIowa #SacCityIowa #StrawberryPointIowa #UrbandaleIowa #WaukeeIowa
Clinton, Iowa is a place I’ve been to several times and have family living there. There are also US Army families in Clinton who have ordered 2MyHero‘s A Soldier Now, BCT Confidence, Look Good, Destined, and Work Hard designs.
Thank you Hawkeyes for supporting your military sons and daughters with 2MyHero military greeting cards!
Johnston, Iowa is home to the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum which was recognized in the Top 5 Best Virtual Reality Tours:
- CIA Museum – McLean, VA
- Behringer Crawford Museum – Covington, KY
- Field Museum – Chicago, IL
- National Museum of Natural History – Washington, D.C.
- Iowa Gold Star Military Museum – Johnston, IA
If you’re in the area, the museum is open weekdays and Saturdays. Admission is always free. It looks to be a small but mighty tribute to our military heroes.
I want to thank the families and communities in Iowa that have purchased 2MyHero military greeting cards and faithfully support our troops. I know your Airmen, Soldiers, Marines, and Sailors are thankful for your encouragement as well. Handwritten messages sent in an appropriate military greeting card are deeply appreciated and treasured. Some will hold onto these special gifts for the entire time of their military service. Maybe even beyond their military service.
If you’re from Iowa please comment below with a “hooyah” if you love a Sailor, “oohrah” if you love a Marine, “hooah” if you love a Soldier, or “aim high” if you love an Airman, or “always ready” if you love a Coastie. Let me know what part of the state you’re from and which branch of the military your hero is either actively on duty with or a Veteran of. You can also connect through our contact page on the website.
