February 1st marks #NationalTexasDay. Texas is a big state, with a big military presence as well as a big number of military families who love 2MyHero.
The 28th state to join the United States is also known as the Lone Star State. Texas’s nickname pays tribute to the Lone Star flag, which was adopted after Texas became independent from Mexico in 1836. Texas was an independent republic for ten years before accepting annexation to the United States, and the flag reflects the pride and go-it-alone spirit that is still part of the Texas way of life.
The saying “everything is bigger in Texas” doesn’t just refer to big hats, big hair, and big attitudes like we remember from the TV drama Dallas. (Whew, I’m dating myself!) It has its roots in the state’s enormous geographical area. Texas has a total area of 268,820 square miles, ranking just behind Alaska in terms of size. But Texas has over 60 times the population of Alaska! That large Texas population has a big heart for supporting our military men and women.
I’ve only been through airports in Texas, but I have friends who lived there and a few who are native Texans. Someday I hope to go visit them. There are a couple of cities in particular I’d especially like to visit someday.
The first is San Antonio. Why San Antonio? Lackland Air Force Base is one of 14 military bases in Texas and Lackland is where the US Air Force makes recruits into Airman. I get a lot of orders for the “An Airman Now” military greeting card for enlisted Airmen. Not all those orders come from Texans, but many of the orders coming from Texas include this popular card.
In these times of social distancing, families are unable to attend the graduation ceremonies as they once did. But they can still express their pride and admiration for their new enlisted or commissioned officer Airman, Coastie, Marine, Sailor, or Soldier by sending them one or more of the fitting graduation and encouragement military greeting cards from 2MyHero. Next up on my list of cities I want to visit in Texas is Austin. It sounds like a fun city to visit, with a lot of interesting points of interest, restaurants, and it’s near the water. All very appealing. The woman I photographed for the social media post for #NationalTexasDay lived in Austin for several years. Her husband served in the Navy as an officer on a submarine. Both have been great sources of ideas and encouragement for 2MyHero designs and marketing ideas.
So many 2MyHero orders have come from Texan moms and dads, grandparents, and military personnel with a fairly even spread between Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, and Navy. Sprinkle in a few Coast Guard orders and there you have it.
Another city in Texas that has my attention is El Paso. My grandfather purchased a small plot of land there over 50 years ago. It wasn’t worth a whole lot then, and it still isn’t. The city is growing, but time will tell if city limits make it out to this little plot. I am quite curious to check it out though! Looking at the plot on Google maps is interesting, but I’d like to visit the area and get a better idea of how it lays out.
Speaking of El Paso, I shipped 2 – US Marine Corps orders there just in the last week! Both were boxes of the popular Semper Fi notecards.
