As January draws to a close, Valentine’s Day is creeping up on us. Up until this week, I’ve been writing this message on the packing slip included with each military greeting card order:
“Happy 2020 and Happy new decade to you and your _________”
Fill in the blank with Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Airman or Coastie depending on which cards were ordered. I could probably write that for a while longer, but it just started feeling a bit old and beyond the window of reasonable use.
Included in each order placed on Amazon, Etsy, or the 2MyHero website in January was a Gold Star Military Sympathy greeting card. Each card was wrapped with a band asking the receiver to “Please use this military sympathy card to encourage a Gold Star Family in your community.” If you were one of the customers who received a free military sympathy card and have something you can share about how it was received please let me know in the comments below.
It’s time now to transition to romance. I’ll be writing something on the packing slip and tucking in a freebie that is related to Valentine’s Day. It’s a short window of time. I’m thinking of writing something short and sweet like this:
“Wishing you and your __________ a Happy Valentine’s Day”.
Again, fill in the blank with Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Airman or Coastie. It’s always a little tricky deciding what to write because I don’t know if the customer purchasing the military greeting card is a milspouse, a parent or friend. If you have a suggestion shout it out below in the comments!
Retailers know that Valentine’s Day is a last-minute holiday. More so than most of the other retail-driven holidays. There are always those who prepare ahead of time, but in general, Valentine’s Day sales are concentrated on the two days before and Valentine’s Day itself.
My best guess is because other than Mother’s Day it is the only retail holiday where it is primarily men who are doing the shopping. Especially if they are shopping for candy or flowers.
For a little over 10 years, I worked in a small retail store not far from where I live. It was a gem in the neighborhood. When I first started working there I was intimidated by some of the customers who knew more about the merchandise and where it was located in the store than I did. It’s a place with a long history, and many of the customers have been coming there for many years.
It was a great job and saying goodbye to pursue 2MyHero military greeting cards as a viable business was a big step for me. I’m extremely glad I did. I’m also extremely grateful for the years and experiences I learned while working there.
Personally, I’ve never seen Valentine’s Day greeting cards that are military-specific in any of the stores where I shop. Similarly, I didn’t see them even offered through the vendors I ordered from when I worked as a buyer at the gift shop.
What do you think about the idea of a Valentine’s Day military greeting card? Have you seen them? Were they fun/interesting/appropriate enough to tempt to you buy them? Let me know what you in the comments below!
Maybe the MX, BX, AAFES, NEX or CGEX carry them, I don’t have the opportunity to shop there. The closest one is 3 hours away by car. My nephew who is in the National Guard took me once, but even he doesn’t shop there very often.
A few years back I did design a Valentine’s Day military greeting card. Maybe I should have tried a new one this year, but I’m not convinced it’s a holiday where military families are looking for greeting cards to send. Like I said if that’s something you’d like to see let me know in the comments below!
While I still have a few of those Valentine’s Day military greeting card designs left I am including one free with every order placed on Amazon, Etsy or the 2MyHero website.
Though not technically Valentine’s sentiment, have you seen the stationery set 2MyHero offers on Amazon and Etsy? Just a simple line of text “Letter from home” with a pen and heart at the top.
This stationery set would make a great gift any time of the year for a wife or mom with a son or daughter in the Army, Marines, Air Force, Navy or Coast Guard. On each sheet, sweet sentiments could be written to let the Soldier, Marine, Airman, Sailor or Coastie know that the ones back home are thinking of them. Tuck in a recent photo and BAM you’re golden!
